Growing up in an extended family of various trades, I was exposed to building projects from a young age and had the opportunity to get hands on with family developments.

Over the years I've gained first hand experience of bricklaying, plastering, joinery, plumbing, roofing, concreting, drainage works and more. This sparked my interest in the world of construction and particularly how buildings were designed and put together.

In 2004 I was given the chance to formally step into the world of civil engineering with a job offer from Derby City Council as a Trainee Technician in Structures. Working at the council I got promoted to Senior Technician and completed an HNC in Civil Engineering via day release before venturing into the Private Sector.

The next 11 years were spent working at Bayliss Consulting in Derby. During this time I gained a First Class Honors degree in Civil Engineering from Nottingham Trent University, whilst working part time. Most importantly these 11 years and the experience gained provided the solid foundation for my life as an Engineer moving forward.

In 2017 after welcoming my first son, I founded Bargate Design as a way to continue working in the profession I had come to love whilst having the flexibility to work around family life. The first 6 years saw me primarily working a four day week to look after my boys, number 2 arriving mid covid. During this time I also finished building an extension to my house with my own hands whilst building the business up from the dining table to back bedroom to a self build garden office.

In December 2023 I moved into Sadler Bridge Studios, Derby. Sharing a space with long term collaborators, Worcester Architects, before co-forming Worcester Lloyd in 2024.

Having worked on over 3600 projects during my time in the private sector, I'm excited to build on my reputation as a practical, proactive and approachable Engineer and support as many people as I can in transforming their homes.
